FAQ Painting & Information.

FACE PAINTING INFORMATION

I create quick, beautiful faces.  My distinction, is that I am a professional entertainer who is great at painting in a fun and entertaining way. The majority of my services is providing a variety of entertainment at your event – not just painting. My rate is for entertainment. Unlike a lot of painters, I stand while painting. I’m able to be more animated and move quickly from activity to activity. I try to be as engaging as possible and move the line very fast – who likes to wait in a line!

The industry standard is 10-12 faces per hour – I far exceed that.

For example, if you’re celebrating your 2 year old’s birthday and want a face painter, this is what I would offer you: painting, balloon sculpture, parachute play, singalongs and hand puppets.

Painting is not just for young children, I’m experiencing more adults letting go of their inhibitions and having fun with being painted!

WHO GETS PAINTED

For young children 1-3, I find that the majority are apprehensive about being painted on the face, as an alternative, I paint on their arm.  I paint those people who would like to be painted. If a child is scared, I respect that. There is always next time or when they are older to engage in painting.

FACE PAINTING PRODUCTS

Because I care about my customer’s skin, I use non-toxic professional, FDA approved ingredients for face paints. My kit includes, but is not limited to: Kryolan, Snazaroo, Mehron, Paradise Aquacolor AQ, Diamond FX, FAB and Wolfe FX. I use synthetic and sable brushes so that only the softest fibers touch your face. I also use make-up sponges to apply the face paints. All tools are cleaned and rinsed in clean hot water.

ALLERGIC REACTIONS

Parents have expressed concern that their child experienced an allergic reaction after being face painted. Allergies can happen to anyone from anything. Some painters use acrylic paints that are not made for the skin. It’s very important that you know what paints someone puts on you. I DO NOT USE ACRYLIC PAINTS. If a client does experience a reaction with my products, it is an individual thing and they may be allergic to a specific ingredient(s).

FACE PAINTING SET UP

I have no set up time. I’m entertaining as soon as I enter your event. I open up my kits and I start. When I arrive, I only need a small work area. I suggest that you have girls pin up their bangs off their faces. The children need to have clean faces prior to face painting. I would love to face paint every child, but if they have a fever, cold, or any open sore, then I’ll have to paint on another body part. Please provide a table of dining room height, about 28 inches from the ground up. I will only need a 2 x 2 foot area on the corner of the table. If your event is held outdoors, you need to locate me under shade. I stand for face painting and the children stand on my stool. So I don’t need any chairs, however, if you have large crowds then the chair serves as a buffer between the guests and I. If adults are planning to be painted then they will need a chair for them to sit on. If there are many babies and toddlers than a chair needs to provided for parents to stand their child on the chair.

ENDING THE LINE

At small events, I can monitor my line and paint everyone in time. However, if I’m hired for a large event you will have to provide someone to monitor the line and not allow anyone else to come into line 45 minutes prior to my end time. That person will have to stay until I paint the last person and let others know that I cannot paint anymore.

FACE PAINTING REMOVAL

Use mild soap and water with a cloth. Please note that some colors take longer to remove from the skin due to the nature of the pigment. This would be true of adult make-up, for example, a red lipstick has a strong pigment. Some paints may stain fabric, I suggest you use an old cloth for removal.

FAQ Face Painting

How many faces do you paint in an hour?
It depends. I can do 1 or 40. The fewer faces, the more detail. With many faces I can do small eye/cheek designs. The best thing is to figure out your budget/time and I work within those parameters.

When you face paint do you use a numbering system?
No. To expedite the painting, I start with girls first: princess, butterflies, other creations, followed by boys. If it’s a boy party, I reverse the order. Also, I tell the children you can go play and engage the party until your group is called – I don’t want children to stand and wait – I want them to enjoy themselves. I promise everyone will get something!

What do the kids do while you are face painting?
I find the fist 15-20 minutes they are fascinated and love to watch. Most are anxious to be painted so they stay around. All kids who want to be painted will. If you have large numbers, I encourage kids to enjoy the other activities and I will call them when it’s their turn. Some parents set up an activity station, usually involving coloring or gluing. An idea I got from one mom, she made her own activity ‘book’ related it to her twins party with date, connect the dates, draw in the missing object and more.

When you face paint do you use a picture board?
No. To expedite the painting, I offer the most popular choices based on the theme of the party. For those guests undecided, we talk about what they like and I offer suggests.

Do you have an order to your activities?
When I arrive I assess the situation and I see what will be the best order of things. Most of the time I will start with face painting or balloons to get to know the guest. Normally I like to end with magic as a high note after everyone has warmed up to me. Every party is different. And I do what I feel would work best. If you have something planned, such as lunch, at a specific time please let me know and then I’ll work around your time slot. If the kids must sit down and eat when I’m there, that’s ok. I can make balloon art while they eat. Or I can finish face painting.

More kids showed up then RSVP, what happens?
Not to worry. I can either make quick simple items, eliminate an activity or if I have time available you can hire me to stay longer.

Do you paint on any other kind of medium?
No. Just the skin, though I have painted the interior and exterior of my home.

Do you work on “Cats”(the musical)?
No. Though my cat/tiger faces are stunning I have never worked on “Cats,” but thank you so much for the compliments.

Do you do make-up?
No, however I have the skill sets to blend beautifully. If you are looking for girls party make-overs, upon request I offer a few shades of lipstick, eye shadows and blush. My paints can create beautiful face painted eye designs, called “beautiful nothings”.

How did she get that rainbow on there? that quickly? (Overheard).
I have paint palettes with colors already combined and I use a sponge or brush to apply the paints.

Is that airbrushed? (Overheard).
No. I’ve mastered the art of blending with sponge and paints, therefore it appears to be airbrushed.
